General Resources

Pre-K to Geometry

I think this site is an excellent resource for both parents and students (even teachers!) to use. It allows students to work all on the same website but at any different level, depending on their current need or performance level. This website also does an excellent job of not only splitting up the curriculum for each grade level, but it also addresses the specific standards specified for that grade and age level as well. This allows students to become familiar with the material but at their own pace. This website would also allow children, who learn at maybe a quicker pace, to move forward and experiment with some higher level thinking. I plan to use this in my classroom in the future for students to use as a way to practice their math skills. They will be able to use this website to play fun games and activities while learning at the same time. It is a great resource that they can have access to in other areas as well, not just at school, whether that be at home, a friends house, the public library, etc. Parents can also work with their children maybe to practice or study for an upcoming test through the tools provided from this excellent resource.

PBS Kids Math Games

I found this collection of games online and I feel like it will be very useful in the classroom, especially for the younger grades. This website, created by PBS, takes the characters from their shows and integrates them into games centered around math standards and learning targets. I think the children will be very intrigued with these games because it incorporates many characters, such as Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog, that they might already be familiar with. These games also provide a great opportunity for the children to explore their math learning targets while having fun with their favorite TV characters at home with mom and dad or even at a friend's house!

Math Magician

This is another great resource that allows students to explore their math skills in a fun learning-environment setting. Through this website the students get to act as math magicians as they try to solve as many math problems in a given time period. I liked this particular site because, similar to the first resource, it can apply to many age groups. On the home page the students have the options to choose from topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc. which allows for a variety of learning levels instead of just narrowing it down to one specific grade or learning area. This allows for a large and diverse group of students to use the program and even help each other on certain problems if need be. This is also another great resource that can be available outside of school as long as the child/student or parent has access to the internet whether it be at home, a friend's house, the library, etc.
